12 Days of Separation

The nights are the hardest....

Yep, I'm all alone in this house with my faithful Alto, who never seems to leave my side all day and night long. Xav has gone to Fiji for two weeks on a work mission. I'd have followed him except that he'd be rounding the island on work with his colleagues, hardly staying in one hotel long enough for me to actually explore anything. Perhaps another time.....

Days are not too bad - I'm used to being alone during the day, but the nights are a whole other story. I now sleep with the porch lights on, lighting up the front of my house and garden with a warm glow. Truly, this high up in the mountains, it can get pretty eerie due to the inky black nights. Plus, it's sort of 'winter', so the sun not only sets early, the winds howl through the house at almost gale-force speed! Strong winds rattle my wooden doors and whistle through tiny crevices between the sliding doors and windows. Outside, the huge avocado tree shakes its heavy burdens onto the roof with loud thumps that intrude on the night silence.

And if all these are not enough to keep me awake late into the night, I have my overactive imagination to contend with as well. What is it about the human mind that entices you to visualize nightmares dredged up from a thorough combination of all the horror/ghost/thriller flicks you've watched your whole life?

Thanks to this, my senses are all working overtime - ears extra attentive, eyes sharp, constantly darting to my bedroom door, beyond which lies the darkness of my living room. All doors are securely locked. I sleep with two huge cushions on either side of me, under which are carefully hidden my kitchen knife and the kitchen knife sharpener. My cordless house phone is also within arm's reach.

Talk about paranoia! But then again, better safe than sorry, and better paranoid than dead, right? ;D

Oh look, my first censor! :D

Do read the Quran carefully. Read, in particular, Surah 18:18. Remember also that the Hadiths are guidelines and written during the time of the Prophet (pbuh). Quran comes from God, hadiths and sunnahs from man.

Islam is evolutionary. Hadiths have stated that Angels won't enter the house if there are dogs and pictures. Which Muslim's house these days does not have pictures? Evolution. Women, donkeys and dogs were stated to invalidate prayer, putting Muslim women, donkeys and dogs on the same level. This is not the case, even in the Prophet's (pbuh) time, thanks to A'ishah! Evolution.

While dogs make terribly adorable pets, even better they make fierce guardians of their masters. Alto descends from such bloodline - very important for protection against judgmental people ;D

"Had it been from other than God, they would surely have found therein many contradictions." (Quran : 4.82)

PS: I think more people die from bird flu transmitted by chickens than they do diseases arising from dog saliva :D

Hmmm...tell me again what's the deal with dogs for muslims? how & why did they impose such "dislike" for dogs?

Yeah- Mr/Ms anonymous fancy throwing the first stone when you can't even name yourself.

*bravo* for that comeback hun!

Oh BTW, where is my phonecall? Been waiting all week. Thursday and Friday my team is organising a regional meeting in a hotel-so will be out of office these two days.

Also, if you are interested in doing translation work, I'll try asking a translation company if they need anyone.

Cheers
Lene

Sorry Jen, can't bring back avocados for you. They are very strict about bringing plants and animals in and out of the island (I think most countries are anyway).

Trust me, this island is so small that one hit of bird flu could possibly wipe out the entire population! :D

i also think that many muslims are influenced by abu hurairah (whose name means father of kittens of sorts) who dispensed loads of hadiths. he hates dogs. and in some circle also said to dislike women. ;)
